Movie+Childhood

One of the pasttime close to my heart is movies...

Whats is the driving force for the same is obvious...
A story..an alternate life or atleast experience of one..
which may or may not be possible in this lifetime..

Over a period of time my tastes have been varied or
if you allow me to be a bit patronizing to myself..
Well I am cultivating my taste in an haphazard(not sure abt spelling) fashion..
if i delve in deep into the past with key word like(movie+childhood)..
This is what will be retrieved by the search engine.

Movies were an object of fascination
Going to the movie hall was the "ultimate home away experience"
Then arrived the wave of VCRs which brought movies to your Home..

I have a faint memory of herd of people jostling together
to catch movies when movie used to played on someone's VCRs
The bollywood flicks...It was apparently inconsequential
what was the subject..
what was important was to witness the event..
Like any other Kid i was enthusiastic to witness "the event"

Another strange fascination which i faintly remember
for especially boys was was action movies .
Infact we used to rate the movies according to the amount
of "fighting" within the movies..
More the "fighting"(violence) , better the movie..
probably to pander this urge most of the movies
made at the time suited the same purpose...
The plot was more or less the same..
Good guy vs Bad guy...
only different actors..different name..
If I somehow happen to chance upon the movies,
nowadays,i just gasp with amazement...

How can I ever possibly ever like this ?
This is sheer stupidity...

but then I guess its all part of growing up..
you always look down upon the things you have done in the
past as immaturity..etc etc

Moving ahead, the age of VCRs marched ahead
making onslaught with the average "movie-hall visit"
which almost disappeared from our life..
If it was someone's birthday it was an affirmative
that a movie will be played.
All kids would just sit in packed room ,rapt, attentive
watching movie with concentration.
As a kid I think the visual imagery has an indelible imprint
which we as an adult become immune to.
I remember watching a bollywood horror flick,
I must have been 10 years old maybe,
I was horrified and frightened for several days.
It took me some time to get over this fear,
one of the reason,I attribute to this is the fact
that as Kids our imagination is unbound..
and imagination infact is the key to fear..
We used to believe things can happen...Whereas
as adults it appears crap..
(i saw the same movie again 10 years later,
I couldnt stop laughing)

Ok enough of digression now..lets move on..
Getting the latest movie cassettes or just browsing
through the movie cassettes in movie shops or
simply exchanging cassettes with neighbours
was an amazing experiences..

It is at this point of time ( that hollywood came into my life)
Sindabad the sailor,Tom and jerry,
Enter the dragon,Robocop,Rambo
basically comedy n action still prevailed.

Hollywood really surmounted over our difficulty to
chasing the dialogues and
we made our favourable understanding of the movie
with the visuals or situations or gestures..
Besides, to me they started more appealing
simply because action was too good...
Jean Claude Van Damme..was perhaps the first
Hollywood actor I knew name of..
"Blood Sport" is a movie I still enjoy...
Meanwhile,I suppose at that point of time
the categorization of a new concept evolved
which was hitherto unheard of...
"Boring movie"
all lovey-dovey romantic flicks...were boring
I mean still i saw them,
Fast-forwarding all the songs etc...
Because they were there...
There to be seen...

(More on movie later...)

the perfect example of the lowly depths that an avid movie goer's taste can fall off to. being a kisd is no excuse for thinking tom and jerry and sinbad are the flagbearers of hollywood!
